Everything you need to know about silver futures
Where can you buy silver futures?
All silver futures are listed on the Comex (Commodity Exchange Inc.). This exchange is known for its metal futures, particularly gold and silver. Comex is part of the CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange). CME is one of the largest exchanges in the world.
What silver futures are available?
The standard silver future is popular with large investors. Smaller investors tend to opt for the E-Mini, Micro, or 100 oz. silver future.
| Symbol | Tick | Tick value | |
| Silver Future (5.000 oz) | SI | 0,005 | 25 $ |
| E-mini Silver Future (2.500 oz.) | QI | 0,0125 | 31,25 $ |
| Micro Silver Future (1.000 oz.) | SIL | 0,005 | 5 $ |
| Silver Future (100 oz.) | SIC | 0,01 | 1 $ |
Tip: A tick is the smallest possible price movement. Let's take the micro silver future as an example. If the future is trading at 75.360 $, the next price would be 75.365, then 75.370, and so on. The price can never be 75.361, for example. The value of this tick is set by the exchange at 5 $. If you buy at 75.360 and the value rises to 75.365, your profit is 5 $.

| How big is the E-mini silver futures contract? |

What factors influence the price of silver?
- Silver is used in many industrial products.
- Investor demand is determined by parameters such as inflation expectations, interest rates, risk, a strong dollar, and monetary policy.
- According to CME, there has been a multi-year deficit in silver supply. Mining companies consider silver to be a by-product of copper, lead, and zinc mining. There is a tendency to underinvest in silver mining. New mining projects have experienced significant delays. Increased recycling increases secondary supply and reduces the motivation for risky silver mining projects.
An important difference between silver and gold
Silver is the most conductive metal in the world. About half of global demand for silver comes from industry. The price of silver is therefore more sensitive to developments in the global economy than the price of gold. What is silver used for? Silver is used in solar cells, microchips, electric vehicles, electronics, and the infrastructure of AI data centers.
