These firms purchase their quotes from a third-party provider while our quotes are delivered directly from the ECN or the Exchange. Data Compression

All quote and trade data is compressed down to a level that is easily accepted over relatively low bandwidth communication lines. The software only grabs quotes when it actually needs to complete the task at hand. For example, once your machine has accessed a particular symbol for level II or charting, it is constantly recording and storing that data in case you decide to access that symbol again. This data compression saves a tremendous amount of bandwidth needed to change stock symbols as well as providing the trader with immediate access to the most commonly used symbols.
